Getting a scholarship is never easy.
The Selective High Schools Test is not for everyone.
Many parents prize extracurriculars, sports and quality networks over academic only.
Generally, scholarships fall in the domain of students who are academically strong. Aptitude tests can involve:
- verbal reasoning
- numerical reasoning
- general ability
- stimulus writing (persuasive and/or creative)
However, that's only the first step. It's not only academics that matters.
Some private schools will also look at a student's interpersonal skills during an interview. Some will ask about a student's activities outside of school. Does your child get involved in debating, chess, dance, writing, sport? What is your child reading currently? Do they do have leadership potential?
Prestigious private schools like Sydney Grammar will gift academically strong students with scholarships. Common sense would also dictate every school wants good students to represent them well, not only private schools.
